Last week was one of the highlights of our year and wow, were we busy!

What a marvellous week we had at school, albeit very busy and out of routine we managed to cram in so much fun stuff that by Friday we were exhausted!

Monday was celebrity readers day. We were super lucky to have Neroli Williams the illustrator of Llama Drama, the Ashburton Mayor Donna Favel who shared an interesting inside out, back to front book, Macca who read Macca the Alpaca and Ted, Miss Dyer's new puppy. Ted didn't actually read a story but he listened nicely to the stories on the mat with us.
Neroli showed us all her amazing illustrations. We learnt all about the process of illustrating books and how time consuming it can be, she also drew a picture of Miss Dyer which we thought should go up on our wall.
Having Ted in our class all week has been one of our highlights. We have enjoyed lots of cuddles as well as some fun running around with a tennis ball.
Although Monday was 'celebrity reader' day we also welcomed Constable Pup Chamberlain and Hoops from the radio.

Tuesday - Dad's drop in and Pajama day. It was a funny day on Tuesday because everyone spent the day in their PJ's. Our classroom was also full of teddies as we brought along our bears for a teddy bears picnic. we made delicious fairy bread to eat and share with our friends. So many of our amazing Dads popped in to read us stories. It was great to hear different people read books and we were excited to listen to different stories.

Wednesday - Mum was the word! We are amazingly lucky to have Mummies that are so happy to take time out of their busy days at work to visit us at school to read stories. Lots of us have brothers and sisters in other classes so our Mum's and Dad's visited them to read too.
Some of our Mum's read stories chosen by us while others read books that they enjoyed as children. We had so many Mum's visit that we didn't start any school work until 2pm! We love listening to stories.

Thursday - Another busy day on Thursday when many many of our Grandparents and some Great-Grandparents came to visit. Our lovely grandparents read books to us, some of them sharing very old books and stories that they enjoyed as children. Some of us whose grandparents couldn't come along adopted our friend's grandparents and they were happy to adopt us too. Our Grandparents were treated to a special morning tea, tours around school, some of them even hung around to help out with the weaving and craft activities we were carrying out.

Friday - What a super duper end to the week - Dress up day!
Today we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters. Our class was filled with paw patrol pups, Disney princesses, Olaf the snowman, pirates, fairies, Perky the pukeko, rugby players, a gingerbread man, Thing 1 and Two and even a Gruffalo! We loved looking at the amazing costumes and hearing about the books behind the costumes. Miss Dyer taught us how to 'hot seat' different characters which was great fun.
We are really hoping to have another dress up day soon.
