Well what a busy week with some lovely sunshine and lots of opportunities to be out and about and running around. The highlight of our week was having Mr B and Anjuli in Mt Peel on Wednesday. We carried out a fantastic craft activity, I am sure that the children have told you all about their kites. These are now proudly hanging in the classroom, alongside their fabulous follow-up writing.
Mrs Lemon also spent Friday with us in class as well as our new visiting friends, Naia and Sarah. We were all feeling pretty tired so a day of singing, Music, number games, library and developmental time was definitely required.
A look at the week ahead.
Today we welcome James McNally to Mt Peel. James turned five on Friday. We welcome him and his family to our Mt Peel whanau.
This week our focus is going to shift away from writing for a few days and we will put the spotlight on our maths. We have had such a busy few weeks that our Numicon programme has been shorter than usual. As well as a maths focus, this week we will be finding our poems, typing and illustrating them ready for our poetry competition in a couple of weeks’ time.
The end of term production is also looming rather quickly so we will become script writers this week as we plan our element of the event. In Mt Peel we are responsible for creating and selling the tickets as well as a five to ten minute scene on stage.
On Friday I will be accompanying the senior children skiing from 10am. Mrs Lemon will run the Friday programme in Mt Peel on Friday when I leave.
This week’s plan.
This week our big book story is ‘Hullaballoo at the Zoo.’ Our letter of the week is ‘z’ for zoo! Our daily phonics this week are as follows: Monday ‘z’, Tuesday ‘s’, Wednesday ‘p’ and Thursday ‘q’. We will also continue with our Word Lab programme and investigate letter blend ‘ch’. This week in maths we will be focussing upon ‘halves and quarters’ as well as number patterns and subtraction moving along quickly this week to our number knowledge unit.
Look out in today’s school newsletter for the hot Lunch.
Don’t forget your library books on Friday!
On these rainy, chilly days please could everyone remember to bring along a jacket to school as we spend lots of time moving from class to class each day and to the hall. Gumboots can also be brought along to school or worn to school.
Have a fantastic week everyone.
